E-Mail Settings

Outlook Express, Outlook 98 and Outlook 2000
These setup instructions are for our customers who are running Microsoft Outlook 98, Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express.
Some common questions are listed at the bottom of this page.
- Open Outlook 98, Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express
- From the drop-down menus, select Tools then choose Accounts
- Click the Mail tab, then on the Add button and select Mail
- In the Display name box enter your name as you wish it to appear at the recipient's end
- Click Next
- In the Email address box enter your email address (ex: username@blackhills.com)
Be sure to type in your correct email address. If you have choosen something other than @blackhills.com, then type in that domain name instead.
- Click Next
- Enter the mail server information as shown below
- Click Next
- Make sure Log on using: is selected and enter the information as shown below. Note: Be sure you enter your password correctly. Passwords are case-sensitive.
- Select Next
- In the Internet mail account name box, enter a "friendly name" for your account.
Note: This can be anything you want. If setting up multiple accounts you may want to give each account a slightly different name, i.e. "Bob's sodak.com", "Mary's Sodak.com" etc.
- Select Next
- Select Connect using my phone line
- Select Next
- Select Use an existing dial-up networking connection and make sure the connection name for sodak.com is selected.
Note #1: You may have chosen another name (i.e. "My Connection", "Sodak", "BlackHills", etc.) for your connection. Just select the name that is associated with your dialup.
Note #2: If you are using a local area network to access your email, then you will need to choose that option instead of a "dialup connection". Contact your Network Administration for your particular settings.
- Click Next
- Click Finish to save your settings
You are now ready to send and receive email using Outlook 98. For program function and features, consult your Outlook 98 "Help" files, or contact Microsoft Technical Support at http://www.microsoft.com/Support/

How do I set Outlook Express 5.x to access multiple e-mail accounts?
You can create multiple e-mail accounts within Outlook Express.
With the Program open
- Go to the pull-down menu for Tools.
- Select Accounts.
- Select the Mail tab
- Click the Add button.
- From the menu, select Mail.
- The Internet Connection Wizard will appear and prompt you for the information.
Why do I get disconnected from the Internet involuntarily?
If you find that you get disconnected often while using this program, you may have set the program to
Hang Up After Sending and Receiving.
To change this setting:
- Go to the pull-down menu Tools
- Select Options
- Click the Connection tab
- Verify that there is NOT a check mark in the box labeled Hang Up After Sending and Receiving.
Why won't the system won't accept my password/username?
Passwords are CASE SENSITIVE and usernames are lowercase.
Check your Caps Lock key: make sure it is not on.
Occasionally, you may have to restart the computer and try to connect again.
How do I change my password in Outlook Express?
With the Program open
- Click the Tools pull down menu
- Select Accounts.
- Select the Mail tab
- Double-click on the name of your e-mail account on the list.
- From the properties screen
- Click the Servers tab and edit the password field to reflect your new password.
