The exact definition of a virus is simply a program that replicates itself.
There need not even be any malicious/humorous side effects of the program for
it to be labeled a virus. Simply replication. There are many types of viruses;
the most damaging typically being Master Boot Sector viruses, the weakest typically
being Joke viruses. The newest innovation in virus types is called the Macro virus.
One of the major advantages of this type is that it is able to replicate itself
using datafiles (any file that stores data to be read or written) as well as
executable files (program files that are run), where as most other virus types can
only replicate through executable files. Many of you may remember the popular macro
virus Happy99.
