Part 1 (If dial-up networking is NOT currently setup on your computer)
If this is already setup on your system, then preceed directly to Part 2. |
Part 1
Press the button and select settings. Go into the Control Panel and double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon as shown below.
Select the Windows Setup tab at the top of the screen as shown below.
- Highlight the Communications component and click to make sure the left-hand box by the telephone icon and word "Communications" is checked.
- Then click on the Details button in the bottom right hand corner
- Clicking on the Details box displays a screen as shown in the next image.
If the Dial-up Networking option is checked then you may proceed to Step 2. If there is no check mark in the box next to the Dial-up Networking Option, click in the box directly to the left of the Dial-up Networking entry. Select OK. Win95 will now try to select the appropriate drivers and install the Dial-up Networking features. You will need your installation disks or Win95 CD to proceed if the files are not found on your system. Once Dial-up networking is installed you may continue with Part 2.
Part 2 (After dial-up networking is setup on your computer)
If this is part is NOT setup on your system, then go back to Part 1. |
Part 2
Are your Dial-up Adapter and TCP/IP Protocol Installed?
Press the button and select Settings.
Go to the Control Panel.
Once there, double-click on the Network icon.
That will open the NetWork window which should look like the image below.

1. At the Network dialog box select the Configuration Tab by clicking on the "Configuration Tab" if it is not already selected.
2. See if your Dial-Up adapter and TCP/IP are present in the component list . If the Dial-Up adapter and TCP/IP do not appear in the list, follow the directions below.
IF THE DIAL-UP ADAPTER DOES NOT APPEAR IN THIS LIST:
1. Click the Add button to add the Dial-Up Adapter and then double click Adapter.
2. Scroll through the list until you see MICROSOFT.
3. Highlight the Microsoft entry and the Dial-Up adapter will appear.
4. Highlight the adapter and press the OK button.
IF TCP/IP IS NOT ON THE COMPONENTS LIST:
1. Click on the ADD option.
2. Click on the Protocol option. Then on the left side of the window that pops up click on Microsoft and on the right side, click on TCP/IP and then click Add
3. Now that your network component list contains the Dial-Up Adapter and the TCP/IP protocol, highlight the Dial-Up Adapter and click on the Properties button.
4. Select the Bindings tab and make sure the TCP/IP box is checked.
Once you have both components installed click OK at the bottom of the Network properties box as shown in image 4 above. It will then prompt you for your Windows install disks or CD-ROM. When it is done it will then prompt you to restart, chose OK. Once your computer restarts continue with the next step.
Configuration of the Connection Icon
Double-click the My Computer icon from the desktop and then double-click the Dial-Up Networking Folder.
Double-Click the Make New Connection icon.
This will create a new dial-up connection to Sodak.com and bring up the New Connection Wizard. Name the icon "Sodak.com". Next, your modem should be listed in the drop down list. If a modem has not been configured for WIN95 yet, a Modem Configuration will appear. If you have problems configuring the modem please consult your modem's manufactures instructions. Enter the information that the setup Wizard asks for and hit the Finish button when completed. Your Dial-Up Networking group should look similiar to the picture below.
Step 4
Configuration of the Dial-Up Properties
1. Highlight the new icon you made in step 3 and press the right mouse button to choose the properties menu.
It should bring up a window that looks similar to the image below.
Select your local phone number from Local Phone Numbers List.
2. Select the Server Types tab at the top. It should bring up the window similiar to below.
Make sure your window looks exactly like this one.
Next, Select the TCP/IP Settings button. It should bring up the window similiar to the image below. Make sure to fill in the information exactly as in this picture.
Click OK.
It will bring you back to the dial-up networking window.
Double click your new Sodak Dial-Up icon to dial-up Sodak.com.
Step 5
Dialing and Connecting to Sodak.com
The best way to connect Windows 95 to Sodak.com is to use the Internet icon on your desktop. If this is your first Internet connection using Windows 95, a short Wizard will take you through the remaining steps to dial into Sodak.com. You shouldn't have any problems if you have already configured you connection. If any information appears within the setup boxes DO NOT CHANGE IT since it will change any settings previously set up. If Sodak.com is replacing a previous providers setup, right-click on the Internet icon or an existing Netscape icon to make the necessary changes. This setup will prompt you for your username and password that you have chosen. Please enter them in the appropriate boxes.

Outgoing Mail server: mail.sodak.com
News server: news.gwtc.net
