Dial Up Settings for MacPPP
Step 1. Acquire FreePPP 2.5
You can acquire FreePPP2.5 by downloading it from RockStar.com. You can also read the FreePPP troubleshooting FAQ at the Rockstar Web Page. Rockstar is the company that produces FreePPP.
In order to install FreePPP2.5 on your Macintosh, you will need to be running MacOS 7.1 (System software 7.1), and have MacTCP version 2.0, or greater. If you need more information on this Macintosh software, contact Apple Computer, Inc.

Note: If you have installed America Online, you will need to remove AOL from your extension and control panel folders before installing FreePPP.

Step 2. Install FreePPP
After you have obtained the FreePPP 2.5 installer, run the application to install FreePPP on your hard disk. It will ask you to reboot your computer after installation.

Step 3. Setting up the General Tab
Run FreePPP Setup which is located in the FreePPP folder on your hard disk.

The first screen of FreePPP Setup should look like this:

On the General tab, make sure that the first three checkboxes are checked, and the "disconnect if idle" and "check line" options are set as shown above.

Step 4. Modem Setup
Click on the Modem Setup button, which will bring up this dialog box:

Make sure the place your modem is connected to is correct, and the dial-type is tone

Also, make sure that Modem speaker on while connecting is checked, along with Hangup on disconnect.

Finally, you should have Autodetect init string selected.

Click OK when finished.

Step 5. Setting up MacTCP
Now, back at the FreePPP main setup screen, click the button that says Open MacTCP.

When the MacTCP dialog comes up, check to make sure that the FreePPP Icon is selected. If it is not, select it, and then click the More button at the bottom of the window. The MacTCP dialog that pops up will look something like this:
  • Make sure that the Server option is selected under Obtain Address
  • Do not worry about the Routing Information section. This is filled in by your computer. Leave it as is.
  • Make sure the Class option is set to C
  • If the Subnet Mask: does not read 255.255.255.0 then drag the vertical black bar in the horizontal grid until it does.
  • On the first line under the section labeled "Domain Name Server Information" enter Sodak.com under Domain and 137.118.1.32 under IP Address. Then, select the Default option for the first domain entry.
  • On the second line, enter a period (.) under Domain and 137.118.1.32 under IP Address.

Do not change the default options under Bits, Net, Subnet, or Node.

Click OK and close the MacTCP Window. It will tell you that you need to restart your computer for the settings to take effect, but don't do it just yet.  We need to go back into FreePPP Setup for a few more changes.

Step 6. Account Setup
When you are back in the FreePPP Setup program, click on the Accounts tab as shown below:

There will be one account listed, named "Untitled". Click on Edit to configure the account.

Step 7. Editing your account
The account setup should match the picture below with a few notable exceptions:
  • You should insert a local phone number.
(Refer to the dialup list on our website Local Numbers List).
  • Enter your username where it says, "<insert your username>"
  • The password field will be blank, enter your password.
  • (username and password are normally in the lower case)
Now, simply click OK to return to FreePPP setup.

Step 8. Connection is in place
You'll note that your Sodak.com connection is now listed. Now, jump over to the locations tab.

Step 9. Locations
You'll note that your Sodak.com connection is now listed. Now, jump over to the locations tab. Select Home and click on the Edit button to modify it.

Step 10. Location Setup
When you edit the Home location, you should see a dialog box like this:

Enter your area code.

If you'll be connecting to us using a phone line that has call waiting installed, and you'd like to disable it while you're connected to our service, enter in the code to disable call waiting into the box that says "Dial Prefix". For most people, this is *70, (that includes the comma at the end, so your modem waits a half-second before continuing to dial).

If you need to dial "9" or "8" to get an outside line from this computer, you should put that in the dial prefix box.

This is optional to do, but when you're on the Internet, if you have call waiting and someone calls, the beep may cause you to be unexpectedly disconnected. Disabling call waiting for that call will cause people who call to get a busy signal while you're online.; Call waiting will begin to work again as soon as you end your connection.

Click OK.

Step 11. Connecting
Close FreePPP setup and reboot your computer in case any remaining need for settings changes is required.

When you come back into FreePPP, simply click the Connect button. This will bring you online.
